The national leadership has yet to understand the depth of this recession and job loss. The idea that we have a national unemployment rate at about 10% underestimates the reality that is more like 1.5 times that amount.
And the idea that millions of folks have "quit looking" or that they are so lazy that they just want to live on unemployment benefits is way off the mark.
The reality is that we have about 27 million unemployed and this coupled with the housing market debacle that continues to unfold, this country is on the precipice.
Our community colleges continue to fill, yet there are not many new training classes that are targeted to the 250,000 jobs that are not filled or the emerging jobs that are being created by innovators and new businesses.
